Luciano Botelho Opera Singer

Since his appearance at Teatro Amazonas as Tamino in 2001, Luciano has performed in various opera houses, including the Royal Opera Covent Garden, Glyndebourne, Theater an der Wien, Opera de Genève, Oper Frankfurt, Stuttgart Opera, Hamburg Staatsoper, Sydney Opera House, New National Theatre Tokyo, Salzburg Festival… In 2022 he performed Rodolfo, La Bohème, for English Touring Opera and Carlos, A noite de São João, in a historical rediscovery of Elias Alves Lobo score, considered the first Brazilian Opera, composed in Portuguese. He also appeared in concerts in Lisbon with Gulbenkian Orchestra, in Porto at Casa da Música and in Madrid with Fundación Excelentia.
Luciano has recently developed a new interest in Historical Musicology, and is now a PHD researcher at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, sponsored by FCT. Before that he completed master’s degree in performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, a Bachelor of Singing at the University of Rio de Janeiro and a Sacred Music Degree at Baptist Theological Seminary Southern Brazil.
His discography includes a recital CD called Songs of Brazil and Argentina; a CD of Linda di Chamounix recorded at ROH Covent Garden and distributed by Opera Rara; a live DVD recording of the acclaimed Stuttgart Opera production of La Sonnambula; besides a movie edition of the contemporary Opera Liquid Voices, by Jocy de Oliveira that won prizes in London, Nice, Madrid, Warsaw and Antwerp Movie Festivals.
